Florida's annual A-to-F school report card was released on Wednesday, showcasing a notable improvement in public school performance. More schools earned top marks this year, while fewer received Fs than the previous year.

Central Florida's Positive Trend

Reflecting the statewide trend, Central Florida's school districts saw significant improvements. No school in Lake, Orange, Osceola, or Seminole counties received an F this year, and only four schools earned Ds. According to the Florida Department of Education, the number of schools graded D or F statewide decreased from 211 in 2023 to 113 this year.

In total, 3,406 public schools received grades this year. Impressively, 38% of these schools earned As, a rise from 32% last year. Less than 4% received Ds or Fs, highlighting the overall improvement.

District Grades

School districts also received their annual grades. Orange and Seminole counties earned As, while Lake and Osceola counties received Bs. This reflects the ongoing dedication to educational excellence within these districts.

A Commitment to Excellence

"This year’s school grades reflect Florida’s steadfast commitment to excellence in education," stated Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz.

For 25 years, school grades have been a cornerstone of Florida’s school accountability system. These grades are primarily based on student performance in state-standardized tests covering math, reading, science, and social studies. While the grading system is often debated due to its reliance on high-stakes testing, it remains a widely used measure of school quality. Parents use these grades when selecting schools, and real estate agents often reference them when selling homes.

Stay informed and continue supporting the pursuit of educational excellence in our schools.
